Quite a few hours and a few meetings later we are now at the stage where we are facing one of the biggest hurdles...supply. There are relatively few organic farms on the coast that can supply us with what we are looking for.
One idea that we are currently exploring is growing our own....enough to support all members of FIG and their families with supplementation from local farms.
This can be done with a combination of FIG members utililising their own backyards to grow food as well as utilising privately owned land that has been generously offered to us for our own use.
There have been a few local landowners who have generously offered FIG the use of their properties for growing etc. To reduce the risk for FIG members and private landowners we are considering growing our basic intensive annuals on privately owned properties and are in the process of finding publicly owned/funded land to develop with longer term plants and perrenials or a permaculture based system.
